Battlefield 3 review

With the release of modern warfare 3 and other big budget shooters it can be difficult to choose. Well Dice has thrown their hat into the ring with battlefield 3.

The story of Battlefield 3 is basic, some nukes were stolen from Russia and America accuses Russia of trying to start a war and somehow there is a coup in Iran. Except the interesting feature is your playing flashbacks as a marine is being interrogated for information about who is harbouring the nukes. I just think that developers aren’t blind they can see other shooters use to same storyline so why don’t they try to innovate in a genre where it’s the norm to have a completely non-existent story.

The graphics to this game are amazing, the frostbite 2 engine is brilliant buildings crumble dust is kicked up during fire fights and blood spatters the screen when you’re shot. The single player has less destruction but in most of the open multiplayer maps everything can and will be destroyed. The guns are also perfectly modelled with the terrorist’s guns looking a bit ropier whether the American weapons look clean and pack a mighty punch.

The gameplay is very compelling especially due to the destruction as cover can be destroyed you will find that close to the end of a match there will be less places to hide. The game controls similar to all other first person shooters. However in the single player I experienced temporary freezes at the beginning of a level in in the final missions where all hell is breaking loose there can be a lot of slow down, but I played on consoles so pc owners might have better luck.

The sound in this game is amazing the voice acting is superb and very rarely did I experience a problem with the lip syncing. The music is also very good that befit the dark time that is portrayed. The weapons also sound as they should.

The main aspect of a shooter these days is the multi-player thankfully the shortcomings in the single player are made up tenfold online, the extremely popular rush game mode from battlefield bad company 2 is back and the maps show a lot more progression as you advance through the stages for example one map on one level where you up on a mountain the next is down 500mtrs in a valley so you either have to use a helicopter or jump for it all the while the defenders are shooting up at you is very fun. There are some new vehicles such as jet fighters and new tanks and troop carriers which can be used to spawn people at the heart of a battle. The levelling system is very good instead of just advancing one level and getting everything from that you have a main level where you get general things then there are class levels where you weapons upgrade to new weapons or attachments, vehicles also level up giving you access to new weapons to improve you killing sprees. Also I didn’t have to wait for ages in a lobby like I had to in call of duty.

Simply put buy battlefield 3, I haven’t played modern warfare 3 and frankly I don’t think I ever will as I personally have never got into call of duty. Battlefield 3 is an 8/10. Buy it for multiplayer not single player.
