gears of war 2 review

While most people interested in gears 2 have probably already played it but for those who haven’t I would just say go and buy it. If you liked gears 1 you will love gears 2, it is basically more gears 1 which is not a bad thing considering the new things they have implemented.

The graphics in gears one were amazing for the time it came out, now the graphics have been turned up to 10 and the massive set pieces make you feel you are part of a larger battle all thanks to the newer unreal engine. Also there is a lot more variety for example you could be in a burning city and then cutting through a giant worms arteries.

The story continues on from the previous game and the locusts are back and sinking cities and it is your job with what is left of the cog army to go into the hollow and take them down, while also searching for Dom’s wife Maria which when ends in a heart breaking cut scene. All of the characters are back including some new one such as Tai and Dizzy.

A large part of gears 2 was the multiplayer which is much improved from gears one with new modes and more people to chainsaw, my personal favourite being horde which is amazing and has been used time and time again, it is basically zombie mode from cod 5 and black ops and anarchy mode from bulletstorm. Other modes include submission (originally call meat flag, banned by Microsoft!!) involves you finding and downing a stranded and to drag him back to your base while the other team does the same, the stranded can fight back while talking trash.

My final verdict for gears of war 2 is a 10/10 it is great and with gears 3 on the way I can’t wait for more chances to kill people in bloody ways.

Anticipated game, assassins cred revelations

Ubisoft have announced the latest edition into their assassin’s creed series assassin’s creed revelations, while not much is known there is a teaser trailer which reveals that we defiantly will see Ezio now looking much older and the assassin from the first game Altair and will probably feature Desmond again. The game is set to be released for PC, PC3 and 360 on 15th November 2011 although that is liable to change. From the trailer we can see that there is defiantly going to be lots of huge battles to fight.

As the game is very new in development we don’t have much info all the information above is pieced together from the trailer and from Wikipedia so take some of this with a pinch of salt, I will bring you more info when an actual game website has been made.

A2a wings of silver Boeing 377 strattercruiser with service pack 1 review

Acusiming the P47 was a challenge for a2a who needed over 200 sounds, the 377 was earlier so it has less sounds and features but never the less they have created something amazing and improved it with service pack 1.

The graphics of the 377 are still up to par with all the other aircraft even though it is the biggest aircraft a2a have created; the graphics look their best when you are viewing the engineers panel, which displays everything in great amounts of detail.

The aircraft features 4 Pratt and Witney 4360’s and acusim simulates the engines real behaviour, for example if you are taking off and apply max power and you don’t have your ADI (water injection) then you engines will overheat and possibly in extreme circumstances catch fire meaning you will spend a long time in the engineers panel checking engine temp on the ground and in the air. It is a hard plane to fly.

The strattercruiser is meant for hard core simmers as such the plane is immensely complicated if you are unaware with a2a’s products, to the point where starting it up can be a challenge not including taking off without getting engine fires which happened to me a lot which is why I recommend watching this video on how to start it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp7Jjk48nyo.  The aircraft also comes with a crew who will point out things such as engine temp to hot or cold, however where’s with the B17 you could hand over RPM, cowl flaps and intercoolers to your co-pilot in the 377 you can only give the turbo to you co-pilot meaning you will have to manage the engines.

A2a released service pack one to bring the immurement of newer aircraft such as the maintenance hangar and adding new sound including air stairs, this feature is very nice and being free is makes it a must have, download it and get info on it from http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=12360

My final verdict for the wings of silver Boeing 377 is a 8/10 it is brilliant and with service pack one is worthy of a 9 but to new simmers the first few hours will be more annoying than fun but once you get it working it is brilliant, go to their you tube and support them all the way http://www.youtube.com/user/ShockwaveProd

A2a wings of power 3 B17 review

I was amazed at the level of detail in the p47 which I reviewed earlier but a2a’s wings of power 3 b17 is on a whole new level the amount of immurement is huge but it is easy the fly but like all a2a products it is hard to master.

The whole point of acusim is to fully immerse you in flight and allow you to feel that you are actually running this plane, for starters the maintenance hangar has been revamped it allows you to view each engine and make changes to the cylinders and fuel pumps almost anything that can break can be viewed in the maintenance hangar and this carries on when you reload the aircraft. For example if you crash and reload a save then your plane will be battered and bruised. When flying the B17 there is a huge amount to think about and if you don’t want to think about everything you can pretty much give entire engine power (RPM, cowl flaps and intercoolers) to your co-pilot giving you the opportunity to just fly the plane, they also sound human and react as you would think they would in situations for example if you have a hard landing then your crew will comment which is always fun to listen to. And for long flights frequent opportunity’s to listen to the radio and listen to orthotic music from the time. The load manager comes back and allows you to load ordinance and external fuel tanks as well as change oil, charge batteries, refill oxygen, fill up hydraulic fluid on the fly.

The graphics are just as good if not better than the p47 although I had to scale down the settings to reduce lag but people with more powerful computers will easily be able to run it on high settings and experience the beauty.

The package comes with the same detailed manuals and an easy installation process.

My final score for a2a’s B17 is a 9.7/10 if you are a hard core flyer then buy it if you just like cruising around and don’t care for the interfaces of the aircraft then you should still buy it the only problems I found were some texture pop in and sometimes the game would freeze but that normally happens to me anyway. My next a2a review will be the 377 strattercruiser.

Homefront review

Homefront was one of the most advertised games of the year but the game does not live up to all the hype.

The single player story is set in America during the north Korean occupation and very quickly you can see how bad things are, you see family’s split up, a mother telling her child that everything will be fine before a north Korean blows her brains out. After that you will be forced to join the resistance and you set out to cause havoc with a few big set piece moments such as piloting a helo and controlling a goliath tank on several occasions. But the story end very quickly only amount 5 levels each lasting depending on difficulty 10-15 minutes.

The graphics I thought were quite good especially the blood effects but the bullet impacts feel a bit plastic but do have quite a good punch to them, the character models look good and the graphics are good.

The controls are pretty much the same to call of duty and battlefield bad company 2. The guns are nice but all the assault rifles sound the same all the snipers sound the same and all the shotguns sound the same and the explosions aren’t bad but they aren’t good either.

Some parts of the levels can be very frustrating for example a helicopter will try to destroy your goliath tank and you have to target it and destroy it, after that you fight a huge amount of enemies and if you die which is very likely you have to start from the helicopter part again, I did this about 5-6 times before I finally finished the level.

However multiplayer is very good it is a mix of call of duty and battlefield bad company 2 it has good looking weapons and a variety of vehicles, it also has a battle point system which you gain through kills and you can spend them on rocket launchers, drones and vehicles which is a very cool idea and it features 32 player battles which are magical and a complete bloodbath, although I noticed that lag was a big problem but if you play enough games you should find games with no lag. However the battle code is a ridiculous idea I don’t see the point, to play above level 5 you need to put this code in and if you bought a pre-owned version then you will probably have to buy a battle code (if anyone knows why they put the battle code system in please comment).

Overall Homefront is a bad single player game but multiplayer helps it out and my final verdict is a 5/10 if you don’t bother to play multiplayer doesn’t buy it.

Crisis 2 review

Console players never got to play crisis 1 and the expansion crisis warhead but crisis 2 is on consoles as well as pc and it is brilliant with only a few problems with AI.

Every crisis game was renowned for its graphics and crisis 2 dose not disappoint instead of the lush jungle environment surrounded by water crisis 2 is set in New york city where huge set pieces moments the best being near the end where (spoiler alert) all of central park is lifted high into the air, also when buildings collapse and dust and rubble fills the screen. Also the water effects are amazing walk under a small waterfall and the screen shimmers and moves as water slides down the screen.

The campaign is a bit hard to follow during the early stages but later on if amazing and features betrayals that you never saw coming and the game reviews people who appeared bad to be on your side. The game starts with you fighting cell marines but later you will be fighting the ceph (the aliens) who look very different to their crisis 1 counterparts and there are no giant walkers but there is a good variety of aliens but most of the time you will just use armour and gun them down.

The game mixes up which powers you should use, when you are fighting the cell you will mainly use your cloak to sneak around and stealth kill them then later on you will be using armour mode more during the huge fir fights which go on during the later stages. Unlike in the first game the only powers you can turn on and off is cloak and armour strength is on by default and strength. for console player speed is similar to most shooters hold down the left thumb stick, all of the powers drain your suit energy making you feel vulnerable but still powerful if you manage your energy well. Crisis 2 however is not as open as the last game which is understandable given the confinement of a city it is pretty hard to match crisis ones sandbox and it does give a lot of room to exploit your different style of play stealth right past the enemy if you want. Also once you kill an alien you can collect Nano catalyst of their bodies to upgrade your suit giving you longer periods of stealth and other things.

Crisis 1 and warhead all had multiplayer but not a large community formed around it, crisis 2 has online and takes many ideas from cod, battlefield and Homefront with levels which unlock new stuff and also points which allow you to unlock more weapons and upgrade your nanosuit power, the power are still used but they are less powerful such as cloak which hides you less. The multiplayer is fun but it take to much from call of duty by having small divers maps often on multiple story’s make you have to think about what weapon to use but there are no big vehicle maps like in battlefield or Homefront which is one of the great things about crisis one and warheads multiplayer, for most of the time only two of the 4-5 filter modes have players in them and that is usually solo (no parties allowed).

My final verdict for crisis 2 is a 7/10 if you like to play the single player and collect everything then crisis 2 will be a good buy but if you like multiplayer you might be disappointed as most of your time will be sneaking up on guys while invisible or getting sneaked up on by guys who are invisible. If the developers took a leaf out of battlefield bad company 2 multiplayer instead of call of duty’s I think the multiplayer would match the single player.
